All Pompey fans will be absolutely delighted to hear that Jack Whatmough has signed an extension to his Pompey contract according to the club`s official site. The deal reportedly will keep Jack at Fratton Park until 2017.
The 17-year-old defender was handed his senior debut against Southend last November and has made a total of nine first team appearances. He was also called up for an England under-18 training camp before making his Three Lions bow against Croatia last month.
Caretaker Blues boss Andy Awford said: “Jack has made a big impression this season and deserves a new deal. We`re delighted that he`s shown commitment to the Pompey cause by agreeing to lengthen his stay here. I`d also like to thank chief executive Mark Catlin and finance director Tony Brown for all their hard work in getting this deal completed.”
Jack has impressed for his maturity at such a young age and as one fan said to me on Saturday when he was easily man of the match in the win over Hartlepool United ‘does this kid ever make a mistake?`
We all hope the club can keep hold of their prize asset but with clubs bound to be hovering around it may be difficult. However he is from Gosport and maybe just maybe he will show loyalty to his own local club.
One year today
Yes believe it or not it is exactly one year since Mr Justice Peter Smith signed the order saving Portsmouth Football Club and handing control over to the fans and the Pompey Trust.
A great deal has happened in that year and Toast on Sunday will look in more detail at that but let`s all continue to celebrate that WE saved OUR club and despite a very disappointing season we do have a club to support every Saturday!!
