It was always a long shot, but we can now definitely cross another name off the list of strikers Pompey ‘might’ be looking to go for this summer, as Nicolas Anelka has signed a new contract with Bolton.

It had been looking like Anelka would leave Bolton, but after signing a new 4 year contract that puts an end to that one – for now anyway. As much as contracts do not really mean anything these days, it means he will not be going anywhere, well not in the next 24 hours!

The clock is ticking, the names – that the media want us to know about anyway – left in the hat are Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Eidur Gudjohnsen.

I most certainly would have taken Anelka, but to be honest I will not lose too much sleep over the fact that we cannot have him and I would still be happy and content with what we currently have in all honesty.
