It Is The End Of The Line For Kal

|

Kal Naismith heads the list of players who will be leaving at the end of their Pompey contracts this summer.

Naismith returned to the side for the season finale against Peterborough, which proved to be his final outing for the Blues as it was confirmed on Wednesday evening he been “unable to reach an agreement” on a new deal.

I’m not surprised the Scot isn’t staying at Fratton Park. I wasn’t desperate for him to leave, but I felt Naismith would take his leave this summer. He’ll always be remembered for the incredible part he played in our League Two success and I wish him the best of luck for the future, whatever level he ends up at. Could the Championship at Wigan too high? Perhaps, another spell at Accrington anyone?

The forward was the most high profile departure; Naismith was joined by Jez Bedford. The youngster wasn’t quite able to make the breakthrough he would have hoped, leaving without making a first-team appearance. Theo Widdrington, who too failed to play for the Blues, has also left along with Nicke Kabamba.

‘We would like to thank all those players for their service to the club and wish them well for the future,’ said a statement on portsmouthfc.co.uk.

Good luck to them all, hopefully, the youngsters especially; they’ll go on to have good careers elsewhere. However, not too good or we’ll be the ones who miss out most.

Options have been taken up on Alex Bass and Brandon Haunstrup, which pleases me. It was confirmed talks are ongoing with Adam May, who I would also expect to sign a new deal, to be honest.

Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain is recovering from a broken leg, it was confirmed “the club are in negotiations” with him too.
