It Is In The Bag, Surely?

|

No, I’m not talking about winning League One, Pompey gaining promotion even. No way would I be presumptuous enough to think such a thing at this point. However, I certainly hope we can be talking about this later in the season.

What I’m referring to as being “in the bag” is a September award for the League One Manager and/or Player of the Month, following the nominations Kenny Jackett and Jamal Lowe, respectively, received earlier in the week.

Jackett was nominated for this award last month but lost out to Peterborough manager Steve Evans, who had guided them to the top of the table at that point. Ronan Curtis was also in the running as the best player. Unfortunately, he too missed out as Posh made it a double when Jason Cummings took that award.

I’d be surprised if we didn’t pick up at least one of these gongs, wouldn’t you?

You would have to say Jackett is nailed on. Another unbeaten month has seen Pompey takeover at the summit and open up a bit of a gap in an automatic promotion position. How could he not win this?

Doing so would concern one social media user though, others too I suspect.

Ok, it does often transpire that the winning of the monthly award can act as “a curse” but this is one Jackett deserves, Lowe for that matter – then again perhaps I’m biased – too.

Will this, working on the assumption – and I am being presumptuous here and say he will – the boss claims it, act as a curse? We’ll soon find out, on all counts.
