Yes, being top of League One now is great, but the reality is it doesn’t count for much at this stage. However, we’ll enjoy it, right?
Victory at London Road – in the top of the table clash – saw Pompey replace Peterborough at the summit, which was deserved. So, if you can’t enjoy a victory like that when can you!
In the wake of victory, secured thanks to an own goal and Oli Hawkins’ first of the season, assistant manager Joe Gallen was keen to stress the position now doesn’t mean too much and we shouldn’t be celebrating too much, just yet.
He told portsmouthfc.co.uk: “I’d love to be talking about being top in May – that’s the key. It doesn’t really mean much at this stage of the season. We’re only eight matches in, but to emerge as the winners against another side that had yet to lose is pleasing.”
As said, we should enjoy this, but in the right way. Still, as you would expect, some have very much enjoyed this current position. I’m not going to say are getting carried away though, honest…
Kenny and the scouting team deserve massive recognition for finding our front three. Smashing it so far this season. #pompey #pup #TopOfTheLeague

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting this good a start to the season. I’d hoped we would kick on from the last one, proving we can not only live in this league yet also seriously challenge but to be top – and unbeaten – heading towards late September is awesome.
Who couldn’t be happy?!
