Is Avram the answer?

Dan Brett aka PompeySedge shares further thoughts on the likely appointment of Avram Grant.

Reports circulating tonight are that current Director of Football Avram Grant is set to be offered the manager’s job… So is that going to be a good potential choice by the Portsmouth board?

Those stat-fanatics of you will look into the career of the Israeli and discover an impressive 15 wins out of a possible 38 games with Grant as Redknapp’s assistant. He then went on to further improve his personal tally with Chelsea, reaching the Champions League final as well as impressive results, thumping Manchester City 6-0. Only 18 games were played under his stewardship in which the side didn’t take all three points.. Something I think all Pompey fans would love him to replicate!

Of course, statistics don’t always tell the full story, but the fact that he’s been in and around the club before will offer a great standing point for the board when choosing the manager. He’s seen how the club is run internally and has worked with a few of the players who still remain from his days at Fratton Park, but with his impressive CV at club and international level, we’ll do very well to have him near our first team.

He may not be as young as the likes of linked-manager Darren Ferguson or even had as much experience in the English game as Alan Curbishley or Steve Coppell, but his love of the game and knowledge are there for all too see, so even if he stayed with us in DoF capacities, I can see us doing very well under his stewardship.
