Lets at least lose in ‘the right way’ – if there is such a thing!

By the right way I mean seeing 11 players, or at least the vast majority, giving it their all and looking like they want to be out there, and have been given a brief by the manager to be out there and give it ‘100%’, that means they at least want to be out on the pitch trying to get a result.

Unfortunately, from where I stood at The Withdean, it ‘seemed’ quite apparent early on that this was not the brief…

I, and many others, have seen some dross over the years and you sometimes think ‘what was the point’, especially on the road, but the game at Brighton at the weekend was pitiful and genuinely had you, well me and many others, seriously questioning WHY we had bothered?

Of course you bother because it is your club and its in the blood but if I could go back and change my mind when it came to 6am, and wake up time, I would very much rather I had stayed in bed – then again who am I kidding eh, as I would not have…

‘Shocking’ I think is the word that best sums up the ’embarrassment’ of the 3-1 defeat.

I have only seen what happened, as it happened, but why Dave Kitson allowed himself, a vastly experienced footballer, to be sent off in such a manor makes the mind boggle and as far as my own thinking of the guy goes does little to help what I am thinking of him!

Apart from the briefest of brief glimpses here and there his abject performances for the last 3-months or so have angered me – ‘The Ginger Ninja’ has been ‘The Ginger Whinger’ over this period, moaning and groaning and hardly putting in any effort, most of this has been saved for sulking.

I could not give a rats if he never scored for us again, of course strikers are often measured on goals, but its the ‘effort’ that I want to see from him, and we are not seeing anything like this. To be honest I can now see why he was not that popular at Stoke and why they wanted rid of him!

Us fans – as always – kept going until the bitter end, I would admit that the numbers did thin out a fair bit when Brighton found their injury time 3rd goal, but I think the thing that has angered me more than anything was the lack of appreciation shown to us from the players.

Fair dos, I can understand they would have been ‘angry’, ‘disappointed’, ‘frustrated’ and probably even ’embarrassed’ – at least I would hope so – but for 2 from the playing and coaching staff to show any appreciation to the fans was poor!

I thought that it was only Carl Dickinson that came over, although I was told that another player did – Ken said who but I cannot remember who this was.

The silver lining though I got to see Tom Kilbey score, and that was enjoyable. Although I wonder how long it will be before another who is not ‘good enough’ moves on…

What next for Pompey?

Well, I do not know, but what I do know is that I would expect a lot more from whatever 11 players pull on the Pompey shirt in future, especially so many with so much experience that are meant to be ‘quality’ footballers and the ones that we keep in place of younger, inexperienced players because they will not ‘cut it’ at such a level.

Anything like what we saw at Brighton would be nowhere near acceptable, whatever the result…
