…and my own opinion is that I hope it is nothing more than a ‘column filler’ in the local Newcastle papers to be honest!

It is ‘said’ that Harry Redknapp – who is being linked with just about every striker there is – is thinking of ‘testing Kevin Keegan’s resolve’ to keep hold of, and get the best out of Shola Ameobi by making an offer for him…

Yep, as I – and many others – keep saying a striker signing would be good, and I also know not everyone agrees, but we only want to sign a striker if he is an improvement on what we already have, ‘links’ with Bobby Zamora and Ameobi in my thinking smack of desperation.

I mean no disrespect to either, as both are good footballers, but you have to ask yourself despite Redknapp’s ability ‘to get the best out of players’ are either – Ameobi particularly in my thinking – an improvement on what we have? My answer is no… I do not think I would be alone, even many Newcastle fans would probably also agree!

So I would rather we did not sign a striker at all rather than signed one for the sake of doing so, I would much rather persist with what we have and give Dave Nugent a decent run.

I wonder who will be served up next… Stevie Claridge must still be kicking about somewhere, even at his age I do not think he could work any less – effort wise – than some we already have, he would come cheap and could get his 1000th league game under his belt couldn’t he – or did he already manage this?
