He’ll Have Bad And Anonymous Games

|

Andre Green recently completed a loan switch from Aston Villa to Pompey, of course.

Green was handed his debut in the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Gillingham last week. His performance was enough to convince Kenny Jackett the loanee was the one fill the void left by Ronan Curtis – who was away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland – against Shrewsbury

Prior to Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury, Aston Villa fan, also a good friend of mine, mike_field popped into the forum to share some views on the youngster. The thing that most jumped out at me were the “he’ll have bad and anonymous games” thoughts about Green.

He said: “He’ll need a bit to settle in, made debut tonight (Tuesday) I believe – but once he finds his feet you should be impressed. The boy has oodles of talent and has been held back by injury, namely because just as Steve Bruce started relying on him going down injured Bruce has replaced him and he’s slipped down the pecking order.

“Young, so has consistency issues, and in fairness a lot of the reaction from Villans has been over the top as it suits the anti-Bruce agenda some of the loudest have BUT I’d have been happy for him to learn in the first team this year and wouldn’t have touched Yannick Bolasie with somebody else’s bargepole.

“He’ll have bad and anonymous games but when he fires he fires.”

Well, given the fact Green was pulled off at half time on Saturday, I’m assuming he had one of those “bad” and/or “anonymous” games?

Some haven’t been impressed so far…

Jackett wasn’t messing around at the weekend, but in fairness, as was pointed out by eastneydave, who was writing in his Sunday Chimes blog over the weekend, the Blues now have a squad to be confident enough to make these changes, doing so sooner rather than later. Green was one to pay the price for a below par 45-minutes.

I’m sure Green, like any winger, will have days when he’s not at it – again, I’m simply assuming he wasn’t? – but he’ll also have others where he’ll be unplayable, I’m certain of that and will back the judgement of Fieldy.
