Paul Hart did not really give much away but confirmed to sky sports news that we are in talks with Sylvain Distin over a new contract – as well as confirming we are in talks with Croatian striker Nikola Kalinic.

You can view these thoughts in this sky sports video…

He is also said to have spelled out that we are not going to be spending big money, as most have expected – so it is a ‘myth’ that we will: ‘there won’t be any big money – I have been trying to make that clear for the last two weeks, there won’t be that big money, it’s a myth.’

Although, and as we at Vital Pompey have been saying for week and weeks – prior to the deal ‘just about’ being done, the time when money ‘could’ be spent is January. We expect more developments behind the scenes during August and January: ‘only time will tell if such money will be spent in the January transfer window. But certainly not in this window.’

So, basically, again as we have been saying on Vital Pompey, and again have been for ages, the likelihood is we really, and we mean really will have to battle through with ‘the bare bones’ until January and then we take it from there…

That said, without a doubt we do need some new players coming in.

Kalinic, who I am told has a flight ‘provisionally booked’ for tomorrow, will hopefully be one of them. I would not be at all surprised if this is a loan with the agreement – or at least option – to buy to be honest.

Once again though, Hart stressed that the next 2 weeks will see things happen – but these arrivals will be low profile, in price certainly: ‘yeah, but we’ve always realised that – we’ve got our targets and we have been very patient and we are pushing forwards, so in the next two weeks or so there will be new faces I’m sure.’

Keep the faith, remember, it is going to be a real tough season, certainly in the opening half of it – but our support can help drive us on! Do not give up, or throw in the towel, that is not the Pompey way is it!
