Redknapp is tonight thinking about his next move regarding Petrov since Celtic turned down what Pompey say is a fair offer.

Redknapp told the Scottish Daily Express: ‘We have made a new offer but Celtic have come back to us and told us it won’t be accepted.

‘We have been informed that they want to keep hold of the player.

‘That is their prerogative as Stilian Petrov is their player and is still under contract.

‘It now looks like we are struggling because we have made a good offer for the player but Celtic have made it clear they don’t want to sell him.

‘We don’t know what else we can do.

‘I can understand Gordon Strachan’s position because I would do the same to try and keep one of my top players.

‘Whether we go back in with another offer is up to the money-people to decide but we feel we have made a fair offer for a player.’
