In the Premiership a couple of season ago we mounted a survival charge in the run-in and Redknapp is looking for more of the same:

‘We picked up 22 points from the last 10 games and moved up from 18th to finish mid-table in our first Premiership season,’ said the Pompey boss.

‘We can do something similar again. And we won’t give it up. All we need is for the team to keep fighting on the pitch and to make things go our way for a change.

‘We’ve got West Ham at Upton Park next and three more points there will set us up nicely. It is a crunch game but then again all the games left are going to be like cup finals.

‘If we had lost against City I think our relegation fight would have been all over, but now we have a big chance of staying in there. It keeps us going.’

He has every reason to believe!
