As Sean Davis is suspended this week someone needs to step in to fill the void, we all expected this man to be Pedro Mendes and Harry Redknapp has confirmed this in The News.

Mendes has not started for Pompey since the opening game of the season, but he will return to the starting line-up this weekend as Redknapp revealed: ‘Pedro will come back in against West Ham – definitely.

‘He’s a good pro and a good player.

‘The team’s been winning lately and it hasn’t been easy for him.

‘But it’s difficult to move it around when things are going well’.

Many of us want to see him, along with Matty Taylor back in the team, but with us doing so well if things do not really need changing it is fair enough that they are not, as the saying goes ‘if it aint broke, don’t fix it!’

Mendes has looked very hungry in the last two games that he has come on in so he will be determined to take this chance now that it has come up, if he does – as I am sure he will – Davis will then have to fight to get back in.

I was glad to hear Redknapp talk about not only Taylor, but also Richard Hughes too, as both have not played much this season, but are both still very much in his thoughts.

Redknapp was quick to point out how it has not been easy for them, but they will get a chance when injuries and/or suspensions crop up, stressing that it is ‘a team thing’, so much like the Mendes scenario neither can get in at the moment, but when the chance comes it will be down to them to take it – as I am sure they will as well.
