The ‘rumours’ were flying at the weekend about a player coming in – there most definitely WAS a new addition out on the pitch in the pre-match warm-up, something that I saw on a rare occasion as I went in much earlier than usual as I took Trina, the girlfriend, to the game.

Greg Halford was mentioned as this player and I certainly knew of him but could not, at that time, say hand on heart if it was him or not…

It turned out that it was.

According to Steve Cotterill this was a deal that was meant to go through last Friday but to his ‘annoyance’ it did not – I would guess this was because we did not come out of administration? As was meant to be the case.

Although this deal is one that ‘may happen this week’ as he has already trained with us so a loan from Wolves, which has already been agreed, is very much in the pipeline.

I would feel for Joel Ward somewhat as he would instantly be out of the side with Halford coming in…

Whilst I have not always been convinced by Ward at right back, and he has a tendency to drift into the middle – which is understandable given the fact that he has naturally been a central defender – he has certainly grown into the role and is starting to look the part so I can see why Cotterill has recently said that he sees his long-term future as a right back.

He gets forward well and also defends well, so the raw ingredients are there for him.

Lets just hope if/when we bring in Halford, which ‘could’ be in time for tomorrow nights trip to Millwall – with it also ‘said’ that we will be out of admin tomorrow – we show Joel a decent level of respect and do not completely discard him like a used tissue.

The likes of Joel are most definitely our future…
