Andy Griffin looks set for an instant reunion with Pompey following his move away from the club – as he has signed for Derby, our first opponents of the 2007/08 season.

He spent much of last season on loan with Stoke and it was expected that he would sign a permanent deal with them, but the chance to stay in the top flight has swayed it in Derby’s favour and he has signed a 3 year contract.

There was no way back for Griffin, who had not even been issued a squad number this season, so to play any football this season he had to go. Good luck to him and Derby though – after 11th August of course.

Griffin, who becomes the first player sold this summer – as Svetoslav Todorov was a free agent when he went to Charlton – is highly unlikely to be the last.
