Pompey coming away from Stamford Bridge with nothing at all will not really surprise anyone will it, as this is what most expected – although in the end I think we did deserve something, right?

This is what Avram Grant made of things…

Grant enjoyed his return to Chelski, well everything except the result – as he felt that we deserved something more than the 2-1 defeat we came away with, especially as we had some VERY good chances in the 2nd half.

Positives are something that he feels we can take from this, and rightly so, with him also of the thought that he has seen enough over the games that he has been in charge to leave him with belief that we can turn things around.

See Grant’s views on the above and more, including thoughts on the reception that he received from the Chelski fans, in this sky sports video below…

I think in the same interview, but not shown, Grant defended Marc Wilson – who saw a rash challenge punished with a penalty for the Chelski winner. Yep, it was a mistake, and yep ultimately it did cost us but you could also argue that missed chances from Kevin-Prince Boateng did likewise…

Although, and whilst some constructive criticism of both should happen, I think going by the ‘you win and lose as a team’ motto is one we should adopt and focus more on the positives we can draw from this.

Again we were poor in the 1st half but Grant, once again, made some subtle changes to turn things around and this nearly, nearly saw us gain our first point(s) from Chelski at Stamford Bridge in the premier league – but it was not meant to be.

In all honesty my belief that we can stay up had waivered a little recently, although I now take such heart from this that I feel if we can get 4pts – a bare minimum of 3pts, which MUST include victory over West Ham – from our next 2 games, and 6pts is possible, we can do this, we really can!

We need to cut out the needless errors and make the most of more chances – not to mention be bolder at home – but this is a situation we CAN repair! People will point to the African nations as a drain, but that is a bridge we will have to cross when we get to it, but is a bridge we have known about for a long time…

Bring on the bin dippers at the weekend!
