In this series we look at those players that have (for whatever reason) left the corridors of Fratton and gone on to pastures new .. either up or down the league ladder or onto foreign shores.

Next up is Mustapha Dumbuya, a Sierra Leonean who started his career in non league football before being picked up by Doncaster Rovers where he started to carve out a career.

As happens with a lot of players however a change of managers brings a change of fortunes and with the arrival Dean Saunders, an unsuccessful loan spell at Crystal Palace and Donny`s subsequent relegation to League One, coincidently against Pompey, Dumbuya was released.

Mustapha joined Pompey on their pre-season tour of Gibraltar and impressed enough to be offered a rolling monthly contract (remember them !) by Michael Appleton.

As the season got settled in the 25 year old impressed with his attacking full back play and started to become a fan’s favourite as he gained their respect with some great performances.

Enter PKF and their Axe – Guy had to make some hard decisions in order to slash costs, so along with five other players Dumbuya had his contract cancelled and with a heavy heart and a goodwill message to the Fratton faithful Dumbuya left PO4

A six-month contract with Crawley saw him immediately back in the game until the end of the season after which he signed a two year deal with Notts County.

Since joining the Magpies Dumbuya has been a virtual ever present but with County currently rock bottom of League One and with a defence containing more holes than Blackburn Lancashire the arrival of Derby County’s Wales Under-21 international right-back Kieron Freeman on loan until the end of January Dumbuya days could be numbered or at best he could be pulling splinters out of his backside each week.

So given his current position, his performances while he was at Fratton and the problems we have had at full back this season….. had he not been released or if Guy had gone back in for him in the Summer would he have furthered his career by returning at Fratton.

So was the removal of Mustapha Dumbuya from PO4.

‘A good move or bad move ?’
