Trevor Birch, as he told Radio Solent, has admitted that Pompey’s battle to survive will ‘go down to the wire’.

Nope, he is not talking about our relegation battle either! He is referring to the battle to save the club full stop…

It was hoped that money available, and that would come in still, would see us through until the end of the season at least but with the next chunk of parachute payment money assigned to Sacha Gaydamak monies that were hoped to keep us afloat will not be there!

With that in mind he is now fearful that we will not make the seasons end: ‘we are down to the wire. I have got a meagre amount of money to try and eke out to get to the end of the season.

‘I was hoping I was going to get some money from the Premier League on the back of these parachute payments but the next four signed were signed to Mr Gaydamak.

‘That then gives me another problem and puts a hole in my cash flow and I’m very worried now we might not get until the end of the season.’

The word ‘brinkmanship’ has been used a lot in recent years, and dare I say that Birch is ‘possibly’ using this again here?

Maybe to a degree but either way the situation, as we all knew lets face it, is dire…

Whilst I of course, without a doubt, hope and pray that we can survive as we are now the crumb of comfort that I take from Birch’s reign as administrator is that I believe if there really is no way out this time we will find out once and for all – there will be no more ‘limping along’ until the next crisis, it is do or die this time.

Lets just pray it is not die, but something has to change in our situation or that is what it will be…
