Gary O’Neil says he is looking for a regular spot in the team following his first appearance of the season with the win over Bolton at the weekend.

He told his icons site: ‘My ankle’s a little bit sore now from playing 80 minutes, but it was good to be back and obviously to get a good result. The pain in my ankle is just a small hangover from the operation I had in the summer. It went well for the most part. It’s just that one of the tendons they released has got a bit of scar tissue, so I’m just trying to get that to settle down at the same time as training and playing.’

He also says there are some tough games coming up with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal on the horizon adding, ‘It’s good playing against the top clubs – you look forward to it, but hopefully we can pick up a few points as well. We had some tough games at the start of the season too, so five points so far is a pretty decent return. I’m aiming to be a regular in the side this season, which is going to be tough.’

He also says the reports of interest from Fulham and Middlesbrough are news to him and unless told otherwise, he’ll be at Fratton Park this season.
