Although, to be fair, if he could stay here I think he ‘probably’ would…

Freddy P has had a difficult time at times this season, then again who has not to be fair! Although the guy seems to be adapting well to life in England now and hopes he can remain in the country beyond the end of his loan.

This loan, from Lyon, expires at the end of the season – although it is highly unlikely that we will be in a position to bring in the 31-year-old on a permanent basis.

The 2-goal hero from the weekend though loved the atmosphere – something he says he has never known anything like before – and hopes that this has made him a firm favourite, and his performances have done enough to see him stay in the country: ‘I am 31 yet I have never experienced an atmosphere like that during and after a match.

‘We have lost a lot of matches this season and endured many problems. Yet still the supporters are cheering and applauding us.

‘Now I hope they love me because the last few years in France have not been great for me. I have never won a trophy before in my career and maybe that can change.

‘Whatever happens, I want to stay in England and I am doing all I can to find a club here.’

I have to be honest, when he first arrived I though ‘hello we are onto a winner here’ but then he seemed to tail off, but to be fair he has come back strong and I have to say that he works bloody hard.

Ok, so he might not be the 20-30 a season man striker we would have loved, but what he is is that workhorse who gives it everything and runs his nuts off, and that for me is enough as far as a player goes really!

You cannot beat seeing that head back, back arched arms pumping run that you see him giving when he is straining every sinew in his body to get to the ball – that was again seen on more than one occasion at the weekend, and it was that effort that actually played a part in our winning goal at Burnley the week before.

I would happily keep Freddy, sadly – as with most players – we will find that almost impossible I would suspect, although I do not think he will find it that hard to find another club in this country to be honest.

Lets just hope that he CAN finally win that first trophy, leaving with a cup winners medal in his back pocket would be something special eh…
