Victory over Fleetwood on Saturday, thanks to Oli Hawkins’ goal, was enough to extend Pompey’s lead at the top of the League One table to six points.
Hawkins’ goal, early in the second half, on 50-minutes in fact, came on his 50th appearance for the Blues.
What a way to celebrate, as he posted on social media.
Great to make my 50th appearance for @officialpompey and to top it off with the ???? points and and goal ⚽️???????????????? pic.twitter.com/V7EJql8URR

I’m not sure Hawkins is to the liking of everyone, he’s certainly not a goalscorer in the Brett Pitman – who is one many would sooner see in the side – mould. However, the big man leads the line well and bring others into play, helping Pompey get the best out of them with the Blues certainly getting the most out of Hawkins himself.
The work Hawkins puts in is certainly appreciated, which resulted in his well-deserved goal.
Delighted for you Oli. Thank you for your hard work. ????

Congratulations Oli. You get better every game and bring so much to the team. Without your hold up play we would not be where we are now????⚽

It wasn’t an easy afternoon for Hawkins against Fleetwood, in fairness anyone, but he and we got the job done, which was the main thing.
Congratulations Oli! A goal and three points and top of the table, six clear. Can’t be bad.

Yes, I think it fair to say Hawkins does “bring so much to the team” and is more than just a big target man.
Ok, perhaps the thing I think I would say is he needs to be taking more of the chances he gets, as he can miss a fair few. Then again, it is better he gets into the positions and misses them than not have chances at all, right?
