John Utaka being ‘available’ is good news, even though this can be debatable…

Players NOT being sold before the semi final, assuming this does prove the case, is certainly good news!

Although, on what I had previously described as ‘good news day’, the ‘suggestion’ from The News that Avram Grant IS preparing to remain as Pompey manager next season is also further good news, right?

The News ‘claim’ that ‘sources close to Grant’ have indicated that he is keen to stay as our manager next season having fallen in love with the club and the loyal fans.

In all honesty I MUST admit that I have been somewhat ‘perplexed’ by some of Grant’s tactical decisions over the months, and would be lying if I said otherwise – although the guy is a ‘genuine bloke’ and ‘gets it’ doesn’t he.

All in all though in the most recent weeks his hands have been tied big time, so he has not really had a lot of option to play with has he.

So, assuming he does stay, and also assuming he WILL be given the chance to actually build his own side, moulding it as he wants and setting it up as he wants – of course he WILL NOT be handed much money, and anyone expecting otherwise is deluded! – then why not?

This would offer us some stability and continuity, this would also – I would think – see some of the ‘out of contract’ and/or loan players stay with the club next season, even if this meant taking a large pay cut, well it would mean doing this…

Of course until we hear this from the horses mouth – so to speak, and this is ‘officially’ expressed it is nothing more than ‘media speculation,’ although it makes a change to see this as ‘positive’ speculation for a change!
