Papa Bouba Diop has missed some howlers since he arrived at Pompey – I can recall at least 3 golden opportunities with virtually all of them open goals.

Sol Campbell on the other hand scored his first goal of the season against Reading yesterday but even this came after another miss from Bouba Diop – thankfully Campbell followed up.

A horrendous error from Marcus Hahnemann gifted us our opening goal, but even Campbell – as he told The News – cannot believe that Bouba Diop missed the chance to score before he finally bundled the ball over the line: ‘A goal is a goal and however they come is nice.

‘But I have no idea how Papa missed it in the first place.

‘The keeper dropped it, it was an open goal and Papa’s managed to head the ball straight at the guy’s head.

‘But luckily for me, it landed near me and I managed to stick a leg out’.

If Bouba Diop could learn to pass, shot and score golden opportunities he would be deadly…

In all seriousness Bouba Diop has been good since he signed but he has gone off the boil recently – as have many in fairness to him. Maybe his mind is elsewhere? He really does need to brush up on his shooting though, as this has been embarrassing at times and I fear that his shocking misses could sooner or later eventually cost us more than they have so far.
