Arnold Mvuemba has barely got a sniff since he returned to Pompey last summer, I cannot recall him playing a minute of league football – has he even been on the bench? He has played in the league cup though, but he is looking for more involvement as he has told The News.

It has been difficult for the young Frenchman since his return, who although he did not play much last season always impressed me when he did when he was on loan so I was more than pleased when he returned permanently in the summer, but he has now said that he is growing a little frustrated with not playing as he ‘came to play – not to watch’

With the African Nations coming up next month he will surely get a chance, but if he still doesn’t then he could already start looking at his options: ‘I don’t know what will happen at the moment. If the manager says that he doesn’t need me, I will see what happens in the transfer window.

‘But I want to stay if the manager needs me to stay and play.

‘I don’t know if I will get a chance in January. The manager may decide to sign more players.’

I can understand his frustration and disappointment but to give credit where credit is due he also said that he will handle things in a ‘professional way’ and the manager picks the players he sees fit, so although he wants to be one of them he will wait his chance and if/when this chance comes he will take it.

I think the fella has a very big future, he is only 22 – so he still has plenty of years ahead of him and feel sure he will get some game time next month. I would certainly not want him to leave, but if this had to be an option I would not want it to be anything more than merely a loan deal so he can play some football.
