If we are not signing players – and we have done a fair amount of that in the past 72-hours or so – we are getting them to sign new contracts…

Hot on the heels of the announcement from The Pompey Site that Kanu had committed for the rest of the season Papa Bouba Diop, another of the FA cup heroes – see there are a few left, has agreed an extension until 2011.

Peter Storrie is happy to have tied the midfielder down: ‘it’s good news. Papa’s a strong midfielder and it’s great that he has committed himself to Pompey.

‘Papa wanted to extend his contract last season but he injured his knee so first we wanted to make sure he was fit and there were no problems. That’s the case so we were keen to get him signed up.’

The option of another year on top of this is also available should he/we choose.

Another good move by the club, as if we have Papa at his best – so long as he is not shooting – he will be of great benefit to us, we just need him to stay fit as well!
