There are no quotes included, or any so-called ‘sources’ – although to be fair you could say the same about the original ‘links’ on Monday – but according to The News this morning ‘Pompey have denied claims that they are in talks with veteran Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids.’

It was The Mail that came out with the ‘exclusive’ yesterday claiming that former Dutch international Edgar Davids was coming to Fratton, but this seems, as I guess it always was, a long shot and a no go…

We will have another midfielder returning tonight thought perhaps as Papa Bouba Diop could return in the reserve game against Fulham at Westleigh Park.

Diop, who has signed a new contract during his absence, is pencilled in to return to action tonight as he ‘steps up’ his return from a hamstring injury picked up against Birmingham earlier in the season.

The guy will have a fight to get back into the side, but he is certainly another option and a decent one if he can find the kind of form – in a central role – that he was starting to show a little of last season before his serious injury lay-off.

His return, assuming there are no reactions to it, would be another nail in the coffin of Angelos Basinas’ Pompey career though – the Greek is already well down the selection process and his weekend ‘admission’ that he will look to move on in January if he is not getting more game time will not have helped…
