Portsmouth goalkeeper David James confirmed his status as England’s number one by being named in the team of the week and he is now the top-ranked keeper in the Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League.

After playing the full 90 minutes of Fabio Capello’s first game in charge on Wednesday evening, a 2-1 victory over Switzerland, the 37-year-old starred for Harry Redknapp’s side in Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Bolton adding seven saves bringing his total to 151 for the season – second only to Reading`s Marcus Hahnemann who has 174.

The performance, which included a point-blank stop from Tamir Cohen that is already being labelled as one of the saves of the season, helped earn him 21 points, one of the top 15 individual match scores for a goalkeeper this term.

James’ return enabled him to climb three places to 25th in the overall standings and he is joined in the team of the week by Pompey new arrival Lassana Diarra, who picked up 38 points.

Analysis of all Premiership games is taking place throughout the season and the players in the Actim Index Team of the Week are:
