What a difference the last few weeks has made for Pompey.

Ok, perhaps we are not ‘out of the woods yet’ as we are still only 5pts ahead of the relegation places but importantly we have 6 clubs between us and Northampton now and have won 3 on the spin for the first time in God knows how long!

Most importantly of all we have ‘momentum’ and ‘confidence’ going forward.

Recent weeks under Andy Awford have definitely shown just how much confidence plays in football, if players are given this confidence and have belief shown in them then they will flourish, as they have with the results following.

What has been his motto?

‘Smile, enjoy, win’…

There is certainly plenty of smiling, the enjoyment is there and we have won all 3!

A far cry from the constant bashing and berating that the club became accustomed to under Richie Barker, who clearly needs to learn a thing or two about ‘man management’ if he has aspirations of returning to management in the future, which from the sounds of it since he ‘linked-up’ with MK Dons as a coach he is not so keen on anyway?

We have not become ‘world beaters’ but what an improvement we have seen and fair play to Awford and the coaching team for turning things around, fair play to the players too of course not forgetting the fans in the stands mind!

It makes you wonder what we could have achieved?

If only Barker had shown the same sort of confidence in the players and installed some belief, as well as giving them some sort of licence to attack – although I guess more worryingly you worry where we would be now had the decision not to sack him not been made!

Alas we look forward now, and not back…

There is still work to be done but the Easter weekend could, and hopefully will, see us 100% safe.

Bristol Rovers kick-off the weekend at Fratton on Saturday and then its off to Sixfields to face Northampton on Easter Monday, we ‘could’ be sorted be 5pm Saturday anyway?!
