Portsmouth are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Matt Clarke in the one nil victory over Charlton Athletic at the weekend at The Valley was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Clarke was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Portsmouth were victorious in their trip to Charlton Athletic, meaning that the gap to the Addicks in sixth is now down to just three points. Clarke was part of the defence which kept Karl Robinson`s men at bay, spoiling the party as the hosts celebrated 25 years since returning to the Valley.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Clarke for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the points.

Full Team:

Sam Johnstone (Aston Villa), Josh Yorwerth (Crawley Town), Matt Clarke (Portsmouth), Dan Burn (Wigan Athletic), Cristian Montano (Port Vale), Jack Byrne (Oldham Athletic), James Maddison (Norwich City), Billy Bodin (Bristol Rovers), Kemar Roofe (Leeds United), Sammy Szmodics (Colchester United), David Ball (Rotherham United).

Manager – Nigel Adkins (Hull City).
