Is this the last chance saloon for Pompey? Probably so, as if we want to keep alive a possible play-off push we MUST beat Charlton this afternoon.

Whatever happens now it has been a successful return to League One, well, I feel anyway.

If we miss out on the top-six, in all honesty, we can’t moan? You can’t basically lose as many games as you win and feel you warrant a play-off place, can you? However, it goes without saying we’ll hope we manage to extend our season, but Tuesday’s defeat at Bradford leaves us with it all to do.

So, in the first of “three cup finals”, Charlton will visit Fratton Park. A Pompey win and this puts the Addicks under pressure and brings us back into the mix. Anything other and the Blues will be also-rans, admittedly in a decent return to this level.

Do I think we’ll win? A performance similar to that shown against Wigan – and an atmosphere to match – then I’d think so. Then again all things considered, as long as we see a good game of football and Pompey give it everything to get the points, I’ll go away happy from what will be my penultimate game for a while.

Of course, a possible play-off bid could add extra fixtures, but that old cliché again comes out, a game at a time.

  • I completely agree that this season has been a success. It never ceases to amaze me how short people’s memories are and at the same time how impatient they are. The club has to be built starting with infrastructure and hopefully the ground growth. To those that demand a quick return to the higher leagues and to those that mock our rich owners for not putting their hands in their pockets, I would remind them to think back 8 years ago when we nearly went out of business.

    Here’s to next season PUP

    • Well said James when you supporters bailed the club out you done brilliant to get where you are and all the best for the future but I must say hope you loose today from a Charlton supporter for nearly 70 years so I’ve seen all the ups and downs it’s in me blood all the best mate
