Can Pompey handle the Iron?

Well, 2018 didn’t start the way we would have wanted – when it was in fact within five minutes of being a dream one – as Pompey were beaten at Bristol Rovers.

It’s been a long wait since but a return to League One action will see current play off rivals Scunny, themselves eyeing an automatic promotion spot, the latest threat to our bid to keep back-to-back promotions on track.

A win isn’t a must, it certainly shouldn’t be expected as a given, but should we react positively to a defeat last time round – technically two in a row given the Checkatrade Trophy loss against Chelsea – it keeps a play off push on track and is encouraging to overcome a rival for this and a strong side at that.

Had this been away I’d happily take a point, which wouldn’t be too bad. However, with home advantage I would hope we can make up for the lost points in Bristol to keep a pretty good run of form going – it’ll be an expectant Fratton Park I’d think.

Again, I think we’ll continue to miss Rose but am hopeful Ronan can step up as he’s highly thought of at Wolves – I see him more as a no.10 type player though – and play his part in inspiring a Blues win.
