There had been some talk of a ‘reported’ Pompey interest in Chelsea’s Claude Makelele – a World Cup and European Championship winner – but I had not heard this myself until talk of it first here on Vital Pompey.

But I have now come across news that L’Equipe claim Pompey ‘have shown a strong interest’ in the French international midfielder – along with Paris St Germain.

I know Pompey have pulled off some signings in the past that we did not think possible, but even this is must be beyond us? Not that I think he is too good for us as I do not think he is at all, I am just not certain moving for him could or even would happen, but a lot of us thought this about Sol Campbell last summer!

You cannot doubt a player of his quality but at 34 is even he too old for Harry Redknapp – I would think that many of us would like to see this but do we really think it is possible?
