It was Fleetwood on Tuesday; the Cod Army’s near neighbours Blackpool are next up. The difference this time being Pompey have home advantage as the Tangerines visit Fratton Park.

Defeat against Blackburn – a former club of the visitors’ manager Gary Bowyer – in the last Fratton outing was disappointing, but in fairness not unexpected given the form Rovers have been in and what’s expected of them this season.

However, as much as we cannot, at least shouldn’t, ever expect anything as such this is most certainly a game we need to be winning really, with all due respect to Blackpool. Right?!

Personally, as much as I keep saying I wouldn’t turn it down, I think a top-six finish this season would be a bridge too far, in fact probably come a campaign too early for this squad. But a Fratton win would keep a (more than) respectable top-10 finish very much within our own hands, keeping the chasing pack below us at bay, whilst keeping on that chance of a play-off place.

Yes, again I’ll stress expecting all three points leaves you open for a big fall, but I’ll be disappointed, I cannot lie, if we haven’t claimed a win come 5pm on Saturday – this despite the fact I’ll YET AGAIN fail to make it to the Park.
