‘Slaven Bilic in the most suitable next manager for Pompey’, not my vote, yours – although these findings from Pompey Malta’s poll are thoughts that I would probably agree with to be honest.

I have gone back and forth on the Paul Hart issue, but in all honesty I think my concerns ‘against’ him being given the job outweigh those ‘for’ him getting it – unfortunately I am almost 100% convinced that we will appoint him, but am equally convinced that we will do this for the wrong reasons! ‘Taking the cheap option’ is not always the right option, but I suspect we will see this ‘cheap option’ as being the right option – maybe time will prove it is?

Bilic is a name that has not actually been mentioned that often, but I am under the impression that he is looking to get into club management and will be leaving Croatia in November – a job share between the summer and then is certainly not out of the question, then again even if he did not leave the national side, as much as I would not be for it to be honest, combining both until after the world cup, if they made it, ‘could’ be possible…

Concerns about his ‘lack of experience’ are something that some have, and the worry of having a ‘Tony Adams’ all over again are fair, but I think we also have to look at what he has actually done with Croatia, and this convinces me that he would have the ability to transfer this into club management. His passion for the game is something that I do love and do think that this would count for a lot – he also appears to be a fine motivator, who is able to turn individuals into a collective.

Would Bilic be able to attract players, and cheaply, as well as convince others to play for him? I think he would and would, for me, be able to attract more than Hart would. I know it means ‘starting over again’ as far as they players are concerned but they are paid to play for the club, but who is to say that Hart and Brian Kidd, or maybe more likely just Kidd, could not work with Bilic? Although I reckon he would be looking to bring a Pompey legend with him, as Robert Prosinecki would probably be the man he would want to assist him – and if his name was not enough to convince people to come to us nothing would, he is a genuine world-class performer known the world over.

Yep, this summer is going to be such an important one for Pompey – we do need to act fast as futures of players going, either being released or being sold needs to be decided upon in relation to talks with the manager, although again I suspect most decisions will be forced upon a manager and not decided by them, but jumping into this and appointing Hart might not be the right thing and at this point in time – this ‘could’ change if he showed that he could be ‘expansive’ in his thoughts over the final games of the season – if I had to chose between Bilic and Hart, I would go for Bilic.

Another bonus in our favour is, as much as I do not like the guy anymore, Jamie’s Dad would probably be a person that would be consulted and despite many of our feelings towards him now I am certain he would still only have good things to say about the club and would recommend taking the job…

  • What the poll asked – Who will be the most suitable manager for Pompey?

  • How you voted – Slaven Bilic 38%, Paul Hart 28%, Alan Curbishley 15%, Other 10%, Avram Grant 9%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys…
