Better team than first thought?

PompeyFcMad reflects on what Jamie O’Hara has recently told PFCtv, and how this inspires him as he looks at some of what he feels will be the key players for us.

Now people may think that the players Pompey have bought this summer will not help us stay up this season. But Jamie O’Hara explains that people don’t realise how good the Pompey side actually is. He believes Pompey now has the midfield manpower to hurt Premier League defences.

Jamie told PFC TV “In the papers they say the clubs a mess, but I haven’t seen anything of the sort really. Everyone’s fantastic, it seems settled to me, doesn’t seem to be any problems, maybe off the pitch they was a few but it seems we’ve got a settled side now, hopefully we can start picking up some points.

“The managers told me that he wants an attacking midfielder who can link up with the strikers. I sat in the stands for the game against Man City and I thought he played fantastic, the only problem we had was we didn’t look like we had the midfielders to get on and help the strikers out. But hopefully me and Prince (Boateng) can help the strikers out and notch a few goals”

“Boateng’s an exciting player, people don’t really know him but I think Portsmouth are going to have a bargain with him. He’s the type of player that can produce something out of nothing. You might think he’s doing nothing in the game and he will bang one in form 30 yards, he’s going to be a great prospect.

“I went into Spurs on Wednesday to get some treatment, and chatted with Woody (Woodgate). He said what’s the team like, I told him obviously the eleven that you think is going to play and he said bloody hell, that’s a good side, that’s going to be hard to beat. That’s what I think people are going to start realising now, the players we’ve got in, it’s going to be tough to beat us”

When you look at it we do have a strong team.

Jamo – A great keeper who has saved Pompey loads of times and is England’s Number one.

Begovic – Great young prospect and could be Pompey’s Number one by as early as next season.

Vanden Borre – Has great pace and when he gets forward he can score and assist, like Glen Johnson. However he hasn’t done it for Pompey yet.

Kaboul – Probably our best defender and can score some with his head as well.

Ben Haim – Did well at Bolton, but went down the pecking order at Chelsea and Man City. But I hope he will return to his Bolton form at Pompey.

Mokoena – Captain and a strong defender and holding Midfielder.

Belhadj – Has great pace, gets forward and assists.

Hreidarsson – Great in the air, scores a few and a great tackler.

Brown – Haven’t seen much of him to tell but was strong and played some good balls against Man City.

Mullins – Last season probably Pompey’s worst player, but he has started this season strongly and on his day plays great by assists, winning balls and can defend.

O’Hara – Brilliant signing by Paul Hart, he is a great young midfielder and can be a regular for England in a couple of years time if he keeps playing well.

Yebda – People have spoke of their shock of how we have got him. I think that means he’s a great player. Doesn’t score many goals but assists well.

Smith – Haven’t seen much of him to tell what he’s like played alright against Man City.

Utaka – Hasn’t played the best to his ability since winter of the 07/08 season. But can play great when he wants to by getting forward and either setting up goals or going for it himself.

Piquionne – On his day can score from left right and centre, as he showed against Rangers. Lets hope he will return to that form for the Bolton game and the rest of the season.

Dindane – Injured at the moment so haven’t seen any of him for us. But for Lens scored goals and set up loads as well.
