It has been confirmed on the Pompey Site that Angelos Basinas has joined Pompey.

The fee has not been disclosed, but an 18-month contract has been signed by the 33-year-old Greek international – who was part of the 2004 European championship winning side – who joins from AEK Athens, with Peter Storrie saying: ‘we’ve brought in someone of immense experience, the current captain of Greece who is just three games away from winning his 100th cap for his country.

‘He’s exactly what we need in the situation that we’re in. He’s a player that Tony was eager to bring to Pompey.

‘He desperately wanted to come here and we have an option to sign him for a further year on top of the 18 months.’

Time will tell if we have got the right player, or if he has come in a few years too late – either way lets give the fella a chance before he is written off, or for that matter raved about I guess…
