Away drought becoming a famine!

Pompey’s abysmal away form continued, but that was only half the story, this time we absolutely dominated the game from start to finish, but wayward finishing and a lack of finesse in front of goal cost us in the end.

The caretaker due made a couple of swift changes to the side, Benjani was absent so Kitson stepped straight back into the side, Ward was preferred to Huseklepp, presumably to add a bit more steel away from home.

For the first half hour honours were pretty even, then Pompey really decided to take the game by the proverbial scruff, after a flurry of corners came the first big chance, a cross found its way to Kitson 6 yards out, he stuck out a boot and only guided the ball past the post, a golden chance gone.

Away from home you don’t expect to dominate a game, but pompey were doing just that, Varney went through one-on-one but couldn’t convert, Rocha headed straight at the ‘keeper and Ward stabbed over, the goal would not come and Pompey you felt woulfd be made to pay.

Second half and Pompey kept up the pressure, Liam Lawrence was presented with a chance 6 yards out from Ben Haim’s pass, he swung but made only contact with air, another chance gone.

As usually happens on these occasions, a goal was to come, but to the side under the cosh, Ellington misqued a header, the ball instead striking his shoulder and landing at the on-rushing feet of Andrews who gleefully stabbed home.

Pompey unjustly behind pushed on for a deserved equaliser, this time Norris headed wide.

Time ticked on and still the red and blacks strove for a goal, and still they were denied, with seconds remaining, substitute Huseklepp swung in another cross and found the head of Pearce, his contact was good but too straight, the ‘keeper gathered and the points went to the home side, unjust maybe, but surely a wake up to Pompey’s wayward strikers.
