At Least We Now Know

|

Well, as I said in the title, at least we now know. Pompey, as was likely ahead of this game anyway, will definitely miss out on the League One play-offs this season.

As it happens, victories for Scunthorpe and Plymouth meant the Pompey result at Bury became irrelevant, but the Shakers’ win added salt to our wound on a miserable Saturday afternoon for the Blues.

Yes, Bury were bottom of the league and had already been relegated, but that didn’t mean Pompey could simply rock up at Gigg Lane and expect to collect the points. If nothing else this season has taught us this. So, in many ways, unsurprisingly given the campaign we’ve had a lowly side put us to the sword as another Luke McGee mistake – he’s made a few recently – allowed George Miller to get the home sides winner.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I do think it’s been a decent season. However, you can’t lose the number of games we have and feel we’ve done enough to warrant a top-six finish, as we haven’t. I do feel the Blues will come back stronger for this and do well next term, or am I letting my heart rule my head?

Now, with the pressure off in many ways, hopefully, we’ll end the 2017-18 season positively next Saturday when Peterborough visit Fratton Park, giving the home faithful a send-off into the summer I think we deserve.
