Jamie Ashdown believes that he has the “ability” and “determination” to challenge David James. A Goalkeeper, which he rates, as the best keeper in the Premier League.
‘David James is unbelievable but there’s no reason why I can’t push on and challenge. He’s one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership but I’m not just here to sit on the bench.
‘I have to push him along. I want a place in the side and I’m determined to achieve that. It’s been a difficult year for me and it didn’t help that I was injured during the season. But I’m a hell of a better player than I was at the start of 2006. I’ve learned a lot, especially from David.
‘In October and November I wanted to leave but I changed my mind in December. The club have also changed their mind about what they wanted to do with me so both parties wanted to sign the new deal. Now I’m happy to be here.
‘This club are really going places and if that means having to be patient to get back into the team then I’ll do that. It does stick in your mind a little bit about when you’re going to get a chance after all I don’t play football to sit on the bench all the time.
‘But I’m remaining positive and determined to prove my ability.’
Do you think Jamie Ashdown has what it takes to eventually replace David James?
