Okay its not really a secret that Harry Redknapp is a fan of Peter Crouch’s, we have known this for some time, but he has admitted – in The Mirror – an interest in bringing the striker back to Pompey if he can: ‘You will always be interested in someone like him. He is a great player and can be unplayable at times. He is a great lad and great to work with.

‘He was fantastic in that year he had at Portsmouth. The club owe him a massive debt for what he did.

‘We bought him for £1m and sold him for £5m. He scored 19 goals and without those goals they would probably have gone down.

‘He kept the club going and for me he has been one of the main players for the last six or seven years’.

I will admit I was unsure when we first signed him but Crouch was fantastic for Pompey in the season – which was not even a full one! – he had with us in 2001/02, being voted player of the year despite having already been sold to Villa.

I know he is not to everyone’s liking, but when we had him I always rated the fella and was impressed with his skills, as we all know now for such a big man he has a great touch, its just a shame that his heading – at goal anyway – is still as poor now as it was then.

Those that have been a part of this site for some time will know that I have had this feeling that Jermaine Defoe could be the striker we sign, which depending on how much he plays for Spurs between now and January could still be he case, but I have also admitted a liking for Crouchy so I would not be against this at all, nor would I bet against this happening.

Liverpool might look to ‘cash in’ but we would need to pay upwards of £10m to bring him back, which might be the problem, but to be honest I would welcome him back – what about you?
