Another spot on effort needed at Dale

|

It is now interesting, very interesting in fact.

A perfect Easter period, which brought a win at Walsall and then Monday’s superb 2-1 victory over Wigan, means Pompey sit on the brink of a top-six place.

If a fifth successive win can be secured at Rochdale then there’s every chance we’ll end the weekend in a play-off spot. Well, providing at least one from Peterborough or Charlton slip up.

However, focusing on our game alone, it’ll be far from straightforward. We cannot just assume we’ll rock up at Rochdale and win – Dale have it all to play for themselves as they battle against relegation. They too have come into some form when it really counts.

Momentum is a wonderful thing and we most definitely have this. Then again, as said, Rochdale aren’t going along too bad at the moment so we could be in for an interesting game this afternoon. Will it be cagey? Perhaps so as both clubs cannot really afford to lose, but the importance of three points apiece means there should be some, eventually, emphasis on going for it.

It’ll still be a tall order to achieve the play-offs, we have to be honest and realistic, but we’re getting close to the point where we could leave this opportunity within our own hands – who wouldn’t have taken that at this stage back in August!

Yes, a cliché I know, but we need to take it a game at a time in many ways. A win at Spotland though – I wouldn’t dream of being arrogant enough to say it’ll happen – and what a HUGE game it’ll be at Home Park against Plymouth a week today.
