The votes had been cast; these numbers toted up with it decided among the Vital Pompey fraternity that Andy Awford’s status as permanent Pompey manager needs to be put on hold…

For now anyway!

Two games two wins – it would be easy to get ‘carried away’ and say that Awford should be given the Pompey job on a permanent basis.

Sensibly 69% of us think we should ‘wait until the season ends’ before any decisions are made.

Rash decisions do tend to come back and haunt you!

That is not to say that Awford being appointed permanently would be a ‘rash decision’ mind, and perhaps not the right one, but I think it is important that we firstly ensure our football league status and then secondly take stock of the situation.

We then look clearly, sensibly, and ’emotionally free’ at what we do next.

In fairness to Awford we see what his thoughts are but think we owe it to the best interests of this club to see who else would be interested in the job – IF a standout candidate or two comes forward, that can share our vision and have the experience and ability required, it would be foolish to at least not hear what they have to say.

Awford was the most logical and sensible appointment to see us through but might not be long-term?

I had concerns about him taking the job on and worried we would see a case of déjà vu with it being Guy Whittingham all over if we appointed him but I do think that he is mentally stronger and tougher, but is he more tactically aware…

Maybe this is ‘his time’ and he can do what Russ Wilcox has at Scunny, where he has stepped up from being a coach into his first managerial role and flourish BIG TIME, setting a new club record for games unbeaten.

Time will tell, at the moment lets just make sure we stay in this league and then make a rational decision on Awford’s future in the summer…

What the poll asked – Is it too soon to say AA deserves the job?

How you voted – Lets wait until the season ends 69%
Yep 23%
Nope 8%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded?

You know what to do guys, leave your thoughts below please. Also vote on the latest poll to your right…
