All good things come to an end

Pompey’s recent great run has finally played itself out, Pompey were supposed to be fatigued, but to be fair were the more pressing side with city doiung the damage on the counter attack.

At least Jamie Ashdown got his record, by 5 minutes mind, then Adomah undid them with a great solo goal.
Greg halford turned a centre into his own net in the second half, Kitson hitting a last minute consolation.

Pompey were able to name an unchanged side once more, this was part necessity as Ciftci was away on U21 duty, the bench was a mere 5 as Sonko had to make way once more.

Pompey were up against a team looking for a straight 4th win themselves, if you were to cast an eye at the table at the start of October, you would find it surprising that these were the two form teams!
Pompey set off like they did against Sheffield United, the passing was more crisp than it normally is at home, that is becoming the norm of late, Pompey made all the early pressing, Bristol content to sit back and soak up the pressure, Mullins’ long effort the most threatening they were to offer early on though.

Bristol should of taken the lead earlier however, Maynard played in Adamoah but he could only blaze over the bar.

Ashdown was determined to get his record, his luck was in though when he saved an effort which broke to Clarkson, he netted but was ruled offside. The 35 minute passed and he surpassed Peter Mellor’s post war record, the joy was short lived though as Rocha uncharacteristally lost possesion deep in Bristol territory, Adamoah broke with pace, played a one-two and slotted home, if Pompey were to lose that proud record, it was some goal to smash it.

Pompey should of levelled before the break, Nugent like he had against Sheffield, chased in and pinched the ball from out of the ‘keeper’s reach, he crossed but Ward could only head over the empty net.

Second half and Pompey had to come from behind for the first time in an age, Ward was the unlikely threat once more, he shot from an acute angle and Jamo had to use all his guile to keep it out.
Just as Pompey looked like forcing their way back in, Halford was the unlucky defender on the end of a centre, he tried to keep it out but only deflected past the hapless Ashdown, Pompey were two down but felt there was foul in the build up, lady luck had had enough of the blues.

Pompey pressed on, Kitson lobbed a chance over the bar, and then hit an angled drive that jamo again showed how good he still is with another flying save.

As time ticked away, Pompey at least managed a consolation, Dickinson on for Hreidarsson crossed from the left and Kitson toe-poked home, too little too late, but a further confidence booster for our new captain.
