The votes have been cast, counted and verified so we now know that the Vital Pompey viewers rate Alan Knight as the best ‘modern day keeper’ for PFC…

Vital Football has teamed up with Ivory FC and Nivea for ‘The Great Football Experiment‘ and it was this that inspired this poll, to see the inspiration to it click – here.

Well, I must say that I am ‘slightly’ surprised that Knight beat James to this, even more so by such a large margin!

For me this really was a tough call, both truly were ‘great’ keepers, and were for PFC without doubt.

The qualities that both had, and the longevity of Knightsie’s stay at Fratton – not that he had not wished to move on a couple of times mind – on top gave both men strong cases for this mantle as our best, in the modern era at least, and deciding which one was really hard for me to be honest…

You can argue factors about the keeper having better, or worse, defences in front of him and how this made a difference – it might have meant more, or less, work for them but if you are a good, strike that great, keeper does this really matter too much?

If only we could have a hybrid of Knightsie and Jamo eh! We could call it Alan James although David Knight sounds better for me…

What the poll asked – Best modern day Pompey no.1?

How you voted – Alan Knight 50%
David James 37%
Shaka Hislop 9%
Jamie Ashdown 2%
Dean Kiely 1%
Aaron Flahavan 1%
Mart Poom 0%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded?
