PompeyFcMad latest update from the African nations.

There were two games yesterday in The African Cup of Nations. Malawi played Algeria & Ivory Coast played Burkina Faso.

There was a shock in the first game as Malawi, a team who have never won a game in the African Cup of Nations beat Algeria 3-0, in a mostly empty stadium. The Algeria team, which included Pompey stars Nadir Belhadj & Hassan Yebda, conceded an easy goal after 17 minutes when a goalkeeping error gave Russel an open goal to score. 18 minutes later Malawi shocked Algeria again when a cross came in & Kafoteka fantastically headed in to the top corner. Then just after the break Lounès Gaouaoui the Algeria goalkeeper dropped a cross which went straight to a Malawi player who hit the post which bounced back to Banda, who tapped it into a open net.

Pompey Players Belhadj & Yebda had an alright game but could be back sooner than we think, if the Algeria team carry on playing like they did.

Pompey Players Ratings:
Belhadj 6/10
Yebda 4/10

In the days other game there was another shock. Burkina Faso drew 0-0 with tournament favourites The Ivory Coast. It wasn’t a very exciting game, which saw Prem stars Kolo Toure, Didier Drogba & Emmanuel Eboue start for The Ivory Coast. Burkina Faso nearly took the lead on 66 minutes when a free kick flew past the wall, only for the keeper to make a great save. Ivory Coast then went straight the other end and missed a great chance to score, with Kone shooting just past the left hand post. Later on Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou came on off the bench, then on 80 minutes Pompey’s on loan striker Aruna Dindane came on. He then nearly won the game for the Ivory Coast with a good strike, but it was tipped over the bar by the Burkina Faso keeper.

Dindane played alright and as I said nearly scored. Other Prem stars played good, but not as good as they do in the Premier League.

Pompey Player Rating:
Dindane 7/10

Today there are two games, both from Group C:

Egypt v Nigeria, 16:00 (Which could include Pompey Striker Kanu & other Prem stars Shittu, Yobo, Mikel & Yakubu playing for Nigeria, also former Wigan strikers Mido & Zaki could play for Egypt)

Mozambique v Benin, 18:30 (Probably won’t be a full report on this game as I’ll be watching the Pompey game)

Both games are Live on Eurosport UK and don’t forget Pompey Vs Coventry is Live on ITV4 tonight!
