In early May 2007, Pompey were looking at an appalling performances in youth football.

Finishing bottom of the alliance youth league is not something to be proud of. Acquiring 5 points in that time, is even less so.

Step forward one year, and our new academy is thriving! 4th in the academy youth league – above Southampton, above Chelsea, and many other more experienced sides, this is a massive achievement!

And for such a big turn around in only one year, much of the credit must go to Paul Hart and Ian Woan for building such a fantastic team in such of the short space of time – but it is also individuals in the team that appear too be impressing. Matt Ritchie’s name is frequently on the score sheet, as is Paris Cowan-Hall, whilst at the other end, Tommy Smith seems competent in goal.

Well done Pompey!

  • It justs shows how far we have come.Well done paul hart and ian woan.we have a bright future ahead.

  • Just think about the new training ground and the positive benefits that will have for all our teams. Paul Hart and Ian Woan seem to have worked miracles, we seem to have a decent scouting network in place and also i’ve noticed all season that we seem to be attract talanted youngsters that a year ago would have gone elsewhere. The success the 1st team are having seem to be filtering through.

  • i am slightly baffled by why youngsters are joining our virtually untested scouting regime. all the same, it can only be good!

  • Gray.. for some strange reason the league table isn’t on the main Pompey site but if you type in ‘Premier Academy League 2007-08’ to Wiki you’ll find it there…

  • Yep Hart & Woan (and let’s not forget Pompey’s very own Hardyman) have turned things around very well… With the promise of a new training facility as well things are really looking promising for our youngsters…

  • with top quality facilities to offer the seniors and the youngsters – hopefully! – in the next year or so just think of the benefits it’ll bring… we will be able to attract even bigger and better players – yuoth and senior – and with the best facilities at hand with one of the best their is at working with youuth (hart) the world could quite literally be our lobster…
