A Suitable Free Agent

Pompey Malta on someone that he thinks ‘could’ be a good signing for Pompey – read on for more.

Despite having some quality strikers at the club in Nugent, Kitson, Kanu, Utaka, Ciftci and fit-to-be Webber, we are still failing to score whenever it matters most. These lost chances are causing us defeats, as our defence is not functioning as it should.

We have been talking about any possible additions, and although most of us have agreed that we need an attacking-midfielder (including me), I also think that if the right deal is done with a striker who can chip in goals, it won’t do any harm.

One man comes to mind: Maltese striker Michael Mifsud.

Mifsud is a free-agent and is desperate to resume his career. Although he had offers on the table, he is still without a club for a reason or another. I suspect that he is looking for an English club. He is a born goal-scorer. He has showed this in England too, where with Coventry he scored 18 goals in less than 100 games. He is Malta’s best ever goal scorer on a national basis as he has scored an impressive 25 goals in 76 games when considering that Malta’s goal-scoring record is very low.

In 2008, Mifsud scored 5 goals in 1 game, something not many strikers manage to do in a career (Malta 7-1 Liechtenstein). A short term contract is what we should go for. I am sure Mifsud is both capable and eager to score again in England.

Why not at Portsmouth?
