Pompey are in need of a proper ‘goalscoring striker’ – then again who isn’t!

If reports emanating from the local press here in Devon, which have since been picked up by the News, are anything to go by then Rueben Reid could come to Fratton this summer.

Andy Awford has admitted that ‘he’s on the list’ but also wants to stress that the 23-year-old, who was released by Yeovil this week, will not ‘walk in the door next week.’

Plymouth, as you would expect after he scored 21-goals for them on loan last season, want to sign him on a permanent basis and ‘rumour had it’ that he was all set to sign for them until interest from Pompey emerged…

It is funny how thing work out and how you see things, I was not overly impressed by him when we played Plymouth.

I thought he looked like a player who showed little interest and I would be frustrated at the number of times he was caught offside – then again it was the final game of the season, basically that had nothing riding on it.

At the time I had no idea the amount of goals he had scored and to score 21-goals though, whatever the level, you know where the net is!

We have some good, honest and hard working strikers at this club but what we do not have is a proper goalscorer and the key to success with any club, a solid defence aside, is an ability to score goals.

I read an interesting fact that 2 of the 3 sides that went up automatically from league two had at least one striker that scored 15 or more goals…

The last thing we want is another lazy ass, not interested type striker, we have had enough of them, but if Reid is a striker that can score goals and also cause problems then I am happy enough to see us showing an interest.

I like the fact that AA is not ‘rushing’ into anything though regardless.
