This has been shamelessly taken from a comment posted in the forum by Cheltenham fan Fred_Bassett.

It gives an interesting, personal, insight into Steve Cotterill, who is of course the favourite to be named the next Pompey manager.

For me there a plenty of positives to be taken from these comments and if they are anywhere near to what could really happen, should he get the job, then that will more than do for me to be honest.

Anyway, enough from me, I will hand over to Fred who’s thoughts are below…

SC is a tactical genius, he will tighten up the defence, he loves his big target man and route 1 football, but hey it works.. so nothing wrong with that.

He knows how to motivate average players to be good players, to bleed for the club.. and he knows where the good free or cheap players are. Excellent judge of character.. He knows at that first meeting with a potential recruit whether he wants him.. he’s looking for the player to want to play for him and the club, not to be there for a pay cheque. If the player needs time to think on a move, he gets 24hrs.. then its on to the next one.. He knows how to motivate, lead and organise a team.. the guy is pretty damn good and this is the job he would relish and has his name all over it… you would have instant success..

If I could make any mgr for Cheltenham in the world, Ferguson, Mourinho, anyone.. I would take Cotterill every time.. but he outgrew us and knew it was time to move on. I believe the Pompey job is what he has been looking for all this time.. hope he gets it.. good luck to you!
