David James clocked up his 500th premier league appearance yesterday at Old Trafford – unfortunately not even he could save us from another Old Trafford defeat.

We were soundly beaten 2-0 by a rampant United, but had it not been for James we would have most certainly have lost by a huge margin as he once again made a series of fine saves – granted some might have been straight forward but still required the ‘concentration’ that has so often been claimed ‘he lacked’.

I am not sure if Fabio Capello was watching, it was said that he would but it was later said that he was actually watching the Reading v Chelsea game, either way I have no doubts that he would have again had one of his team watching James as he had the Plymouth game last weekend – and these 2 games must have convinced him that he must be in his squad… at least.

James has taken some stick over these 500 games, but he cannot be ‘that bad’ to have raked up that many games in his long and distinguished career, which still has plenty of miles left in the tank and a good 100-200 games more for Pompey I feel over the next 2-4 years.

And during these years ahead my own thinking is that he will probably be he England no.1 again as he is still the best – all rose tinted views aside. So if he is in the squad again under Capello it would be pointless having him there for any other reason than being just that, the England no.1.
